  • MASH 4077 Ice Cream by Paul’s Australia 1978

MASH 4077 Ice Cream by Paul’s Australia 1978

The TV series MASH was a huge smash in Australia in the 70’s and 80’s, and so it was surprising but not totally unexpected that a licensed ice cream would be produced. Paul’s Australia had the honour, and below is an example of the wrapper for the individual icy pole.

  • Streets Flash Gordon Ice Cream 1980

This is the take-home box released by Streets Ice Cream in 1980 for the film Flash Gordon starring Sam Jones. Wonderful original graphics, plus the ice creams were delicious! I’m looking for a wrapper or sign from this release if you know of one.

  • Mego Toltoys Official World’s Greatest Super-Heroes Lizard

This is the Lizard (Spider-Man Villain) from the 1970’s WGSH action figure range by Mego. This example has a Toltoys Australia distribution sticker.

  • Streets Australia Flintstones Ice Cream Box

These Flintstones icy poles from Streets Ice Cream Australia are from the late 70’s or early 80’s, and the box includes a great cutout Flintstones car on the rear. I’d love to add a wrapper or sign from this release, contact me if you have one or if you know exactly when these were available.

  • Kiss Unmasked 1980 Record Store Promo Display

This wonderful hanging cardboard circle was issued to Australian record stores in 1980 to promote the new Kiss album “Unmasked”. It’s double sided, and approximately 45cm in diameter. 1980 saw an onslaught of Kiss merchandise in Australia including the Peters Ice Creams and Nabisco cereals.

  • Lincoln International Toys Batman Space Probe

This fantastic 1966 Batman (and Robin) “Space Probe” AKA Water or Bottle Rocket was produced by Lincoln International Toys of New Zealand. Note the metric / imperial currency listed on the bottom corner, 1966 was the year Australia (and NZ?) went metric. I was told by a toy retailer of the time that these were…

  • He-Man Masters of the Universe by Streets Ice Cream Australia

This is the He-Man wrapper from the Streets Australia ice cream / ice treats from 1985. I assume there was a Skeletor wrapper too, if anyone has one (or a picture of one) I’d love to add it here.

  • Pac-Man Ghost Muncher Cheese Snacks

Using characters to sell snack foods to kids had been around since Mickey Mouse ice cream in the 1930’s, but the popularity of Pac-Man and other early video games like Space Invaders and Donkey Kong opened up a whole new frontier for licensed products. This packet presumably came out of a large multipack, if anyone…

  • Streets Space Invaders Ice Cream

Only the most popular fads received the coveted licensed ice cream treatment in Australia, so it’s a testament to the legendary Taito Space Invaders video game to see this Milk Bar advertising sign from the early 80’s. While it was the first video game ice treat it wouldn’t be the last, as I’ll show in…

  • Peters Australia Mork Food Yogurt

During the peak of Mork & Mindy TV fever in 1979, Peters Ice Cream Australia released a licensed frozen yogurt known as “Mork Food”. It featured a great cartoon version of Robin William’s Mork character, with some of his sayings and catchphrases on the side. I’m not sure what other flavours were released, let me…
